# Managing categories

Create the categories members choose when they post listings, events, blog posts or volunteering.

Categories help members find what they need. Members choose one when they post a listing or an event, for example "Gardening" or "Transport".

Open **Listings** in the admin menu and press **Categories** . If your community does not use listings, you find **Categories** under **Content** instead.

## Adding a category

1. Press Add category.
2. Enter a Name.
3. Choose a Type: Listing, Event, Blog, Resource or Vol Opportunity (volunteering).
4. Choose a Colour.
5. Press Create category.

## Viewing by type

Use the tabs **All** , **Listings** , **Events** , **Blog** and **Volunteering** to see one type at a time.

## Changing or removing a category

Use the actions on a category row to edit it. Press **Save changes** when you are done. To remove a category, choose delete and confirm. This cannot be undone.

Use everyday words for category names. Members search with the words they use themselves.
