# Managing groups

Approve new groups, handle membership requests and tidy up groups that are no longer active.

Groups let members with shared interests come together. Open **Community** in the admin menu and press **Groups** .

## The group list

The **Group List** shows every group with its creator, number of members and status. Use the tabs to see groups that are **Pending review** , **Active** , **Dormant** , **Archived** or **Rejected** .

## Changing a group's status

Open the actions for a group. Depending on its status you can:

- Approve and activate a group waiting for review.
- Set as dormant a group that has gone quiet.
- Reactivate or Restore to active a dormant or archived group.
- Archive a group that has finished.

You can also **View Group** or **Edit Group** .

## Deleting a group

Press **Delete Group** . To prevent mistakes, you are asked to type a confirmation. Deleting cannot be undone. Archiving is usually a better choice.

## Membership requests

Press **Approvals** to open **Group Approvals** . It lists people asking to join private groups. Press **Approve Membership** or **Reject Membership** .

## Group types

Under **Group Types** you can create categories for groups, such as "Neighbourhood" or "Hobby". Press **Create Group Type** .
