# Checking members' identity

Switch on identity verification so members can prove who they are and show a verified badge.

Identity verification lets members prove who they are with an identity document and a selfie. Verified members are shown as verified.

## Switching it on

1. Open Module Configuration.
2. Find Identity Verification and press its switch.
3. Press Configure to set the Verification Fee (cents). This is a one-time fee for the check. Set it to 0 to make verification free.
4. Press Save Changes.

## What members see

Members who are not verified see **Verify Identity** in the bar at the top of the site. They press it to start the check. Once they pass, the bar shows **Verified** instead.

## Checking identity when people join

You can also require an identity check at sign-up. Choose **Mode Verified** on the registration page. See "Choosing how new people can join".

## Vetting is different

Identity verification shows a person is who they say they are. It is not safeguarding vetting. Brokers record vetting separately in the Broker Panel, under **Vetting confirmations** .

The fee is entered in cents, so 500 means 5.00 in your currency.
