# What is a broker or coordinator?

Brokers and coordinators run the timebank day to day, using a separate part of the site called the Broker Panel.

A broker is the person who runs your timebank day to day. Some communities say "coordinator" instead. Both roles open the same **Broker Panel** .

A broker helps members swap time fairly and safely. Typical tasks are:

- welcoming new members and approving them when your community checks people before they join
- signing off exchanges that need a broker's approval
- reading messages that have been copied to brokers for safeguarding
- recording your community's vetting decisions
- removing posts, comments and reviews that break the rules
- helping members who find the website hard to use

You do this work in the **Broker Panel** . It is a separate part of the site, built for day-to-day tasks. You still have your own member account as well. You can post listings and swap time like any other member.

## A broker is not a junior admin

A broker and a community admin have different jobs. An admin sets up the community: its settings, its sections and its rules. A broker works inside those rules with members. For that reason brokers are not allowed into the admin panel, and some settings in the Broker Panel are marked **Admin only** .

The decisions you make in the Broker Panel, such as approvals, reviews and balance changes, are recorded with your name. This keeps a clear record for your community.
