# How do I get the ID Verified badge?

Verify your identity with a photo ID and a selfie, and an ID Verified badge appears on your profile.

If your community offers it, you can verify your identity. When it is done, an **ID Verified** badge appears on your profile. It is optional, unless your community asks for it when you join.

## What you need

- a valid government-issued photo ID
- a device with a camera
- about 2 to 5 minutes

## How to do it

1. Press Verify Your Identity at the top of the screen. On a phone, press Menu first. Or open Verify your identity.
2. Enter your Date of Birth and press Continue. It must match your ID.
3. If your community charges a fee, you see the amount. It is a one-time fee. Press Pay to continue.
4. Press Start Verification. Follow the steps to take a photo of your ID and a selfie.
5. Wait for the result. The page updates by itself.

## After verification

Your name and date of birth are then locked, so they always match your ID.

If verification is unsuccessful, check that your photo of your ID is clear and well lit, and that your name and date of birth match your profile. Then press **Try Again** .

The check is carried out by an outside verification service. The badge shows that an ID was checked. It does not guarantee that someone is safe, so keep following the usual safety advice.
