# What is a group exchange?

One exchange that records time for several people at once.

A group exchange records time when more than two people are involved. For example, a member runs a class for a group, or several neighbours help at a garden workday.

The basic rule is simple: one hour of time is one time credit. People giving time earn credits. People receiving time pay them.

When you add people, each one goes on one side:

- Giving time: the person gives their time and earns credits.
- Receiving time: the person receives time and pays credits.

The member who sets it up is the organiser. The organiser chooses the kind of group exchange, adds the people, starts the exchange and completes it. The organiser only earns or pays credits if they also add themselves.

There are five kinds, and the form explains each one: **Workshop or class** , **A team helping someone** , **Share equally** , **Share by amount of effort** and **Type each person's hours** . Before you create the exchange, the page shows **What everyone will earn or pay** , so you can see exactly what each person will earn or pay.

Everyone must confirm before any time credits move. When the organiser completes the exchange, everyone's balance changes together.
