# Recording hours for a workshop or group activity

A workshop or class sends any leftover hours to the community time fund by itself.

---

Group exchanges work well for workshops, classes and other group activities. Choose **Workshop or class** and the page does the sums for you.

## How a workshop works

- The person running the session earns the hours they put in.
- Everyone who attends pays the hours they attended.
- Any hours left over go to your community's time fund.

Mary runs a 2-hour class for 4 people. Mary earns 2 hours. Each person pays 2 hours. The other 6 hours go to the community time fund.

## How to record one

1. Create a group exchange and keep Workshop or class chosen.
2. Answer How long was the session (in hours)? We fill in that number for everyone you add. Change it for anyone who came for less time.
3. Add the person running the session under Giving time. If that is you, use Add yourself as.
4. Add everyone who attends under Receiving time.
5. Read What everyone will earn or pay. It shows what each person earns or pays, and how many hours go to the community time fund. Then create the exchange.

After that it works like any group exchange: you start it, everyone confirms, and you complete it. When it is completed, the leftover hours are added to the community time fund at the same moment everyone's balance changes.

## Nothing else is needed

You do not need a shared member account to hold the leftover hours. Some communities used to set up a "community pot" account for this. With **Workshop or class** , that is no longer needed.

The people running the session cannot earn more than the attendees pay. If they would, the page shows a message. If several people give their time to one person, choose **A team helping someone** instead.

Each person attending needs enough time credits in their wallet when the exchange is completed.
