# Muting a member: what it does and does not do

Muting hides someone's posts from your feed. It is not the same as blocking and does not stop them contacting you.

Muting a member stops their posts appearing in your community feed. It is a quiet way to see less of someone. It does not protect you from them.

## How to mute someone

1. Find one of their posts in the feed.
2. Press the three-dot menu at the top right of the post.
3. Choose Mute followed by their name.

You see **User muted** , and their posts disappear from your feed. If your community uses groups, you can do the same from a post in a group's feed.

## What muting does

- Their posts no longer appear in your feed.
- Their listings are left out of the suggestions picked for you.
- They are not told that you muted them.

## What muting does not do

- They can still send you messages.
- They can still see your profile and your posts.
- You may still get notifications about things they do, such as commenting on your post.
- Their listings still appear when you browse or search listings.

At the moment you cannot undo a mute from your account. Use it with care.

## If you need more than muting

If you do not want someone to contact you at all, block them instead. Blocking stops them messaging you and seeing your profile. See **How do I block someone?** in this section.

If someone has behaved badly or made you feel unsafe, tell a coordinator as well.
