# What are safeguarding preferences?

Safeguarding preferences let you tell your community coordinators what extra support you need.

Safeguarding preferences let you ask for extra protection when you use the platform. They are for anyone who would like more support, for example if you consider yourself a vulnerable adult.

You can choose them during your first-time setup, if your community uses this step. Your community writes the questions.

## What they can switch on

Depending on your answers, one or more of these protections may apply. They are shown as labels next to each preference:

- Broker review: a coordinator (also called a broker) checks and approves exchanges and matches involving you before they go ahead. This does not let them read your messages. If your community uses group exchanges, you cannot be added to one while this applies.
- Match approval: a coordinator checks each match suggested for you before you or the other member are told about it.
- Vetted contacts only: only members your community has confirmed through its own checks can find you and contact you.

Some answers may mean that other members contact you through a coordinator, instead of messaging you directly. A coordinator may also get in touch to talk about how they can help.

## Who can see them

Only your community's coordinators and administrators can see your safeguarding preferences. Other members cannot, and they never appear on your profile.

## Removing a preference

1. Open Settings and choose the Safeguarding & support tab.
2. Find the preference and press Revoke.
3. Press Yes, revoke.

Your coordinators are told about the change.
